ENEPORTS is committed to knowledge transfer and raising public awareness about decarbonisation and the use of renewable energy technologies. In this context, ITG, the project’s leading technology centre, has organised two visits to his advanced smart energy experimentation laboratory. Specifically, they were aimed at students from the Vocational Training course in Renewable Energies at CIFP Paz Andrade in Vigo (Spain), and Bachelor’s Students in Aerospace Engineering at the Universidade de Vigo.
Infrastructure Capabilities
Located in A Coruña, ITG’s advanced experimentation laboratory applies Artificial Intelligence to various fields such as urban air mobility, industrial digitalisation, and smart energy and networks — the latter being the focus of this visit.
The facility uses predictive technology to simulate the energy performance and operations of any environment or network — from a city neighbourhood or industrial area to large-scale infrastructures with various energy assets, such as complete port ecosystems. These simulations make it possible to integrate intelligent energy management operations and improve energy efficiency, ultimately reducing overall energy costs.
Students also learned about ITG’s work in the fields of renewable hydrogen and energy communities, two areas that have been strengthened thanks to the lab’s new equipment.
Knowledge Transfer Through Practical Examples
The presentation by ITG staff allowed the students to gain first-hand insight into how the energy performance and operations of port environments will be simulated within ENEPORTS. They also had the chance to learn more about the project’s aim to position Atlantic ports as key ecosystems for integrating renewable energy and as living labs for new storage, generation, and energy management technologies.
